Depression Treatment

Do You Feel Too Depressed To Enjoy Life Anymore?

Are you tired of feeling stuck and depressed? Do you feel like you are just going through the motions of life with no real enjoyment or satisfaction? Do you always feel like you are not good enough, can’t do anything right or other people are always disappointing you? Do you not have enough energy to get through the day? Do you blame yourself for everything that goes wrong? Are you no longer interested in things you used to enjoy? Are you having trouble getting out of bed or sleeping too much? Do you have unrealistic expectations for yourself or others?

Maybe you are finding it hard to get through the day. Maybe you are no longer productive at work or school, and are too exhausted to do anything else when you get home. Or maybe you’re burnt out and on a leave from work right now. Maybe all you want to do is sleep because your bed is the only safe place you have right now, and you just want to avoid everyone and everything. Maybe it feels like you’re a failure and can never do anything right. Maybe when you do something wrong, you can’t stop thinking about it and are always criticizing yourself. Then at night, you might be unable to fall asleep because you’re replaying it over and over in your head while beating yourself up for it. It’s like you’re always stuck in the past or hung up on the future, never able to live in or enjoy the present moment. Our expert team of therapists can help.

Depression Becomes A Problem When It Starts To Control Your Life

When you’re living with depression, just the idea of seeking help can seem overwhelming. You may worry that treatment and talking about it would just make your depression worse. Besides, when you turned to other people in the past, they might’ve invalidated you or told you that “everyone gets sad from time to time” or “just put a smile on, you will be fine”.

While sadness is a universal human emotion, depression is much more than just being sad. It becomes a major problem when it interferes with your ability to function and live the life you want. This is why it’s important to seek help. Here at CBT Wellness & Virtual Services, we want to help you regulate your emotions and mood, so that it doesn’t prevent you from living the life you want. This is a chance to get back in the driver’s seat and enjoy life again (or even for the first time).

Perfectionism, Constantly Striving For More and Comparing Ourselves To Others Makes Depression Worse

It can be helpful to have high standards, ambition and goals to strive for, as long as they are realistic and achievable. Otherwise we can end up setting ourselves up for failure, comparing ourselves to others and feeling not good enough. If we uphold others to these standards and ideals, it often results in us feeling disappointed and can lead to difficulties in relationships. Furthermore, our harsh inner critic perfectionism tendencies, being too hard on yourself and having unrealistic expectations can create a recipe for depression.  It’s great to be driven and ambitious, but it’s equally important to prioritize your wellbeing, have realistic expectations, love yourself and honour the relationship you have with yourself. Counselling with CBT Wellness is a chance to improve the relationship that you have with yourself, overcome your depression and have ease of life.

Depression Treatment Can Help You Live The Life You Have Always Wanted

It isn’t easy to reach out for help when you’re feeling depressed, but it’s essential to the healing process. Oftentimes, the hardest part is getting started—most of our clients tell us they’re so glad they came after the first session or two. Their depression usually decreases after processing it aloud with a therapist. We want you to experience the same relief.

Our goal is to help support you so you have the skills to get your life back on track and live the life you have always wanted. We want to help you increase your awareness of your symptoms and learn to identify the warning signs of depression, before it takes over. Does it become hard to get out of bed in the morning? Do you start to over or under eat? Do you stop answering phone calls, emails and text messages from friends or family members? Answering these questions can help you recognize depression when it strikes. With professional help, you can learn to intervene before your mood gets to a 0 out of 10 and even prevent the depression from happening.

Tailoring Your Depression Treatment Plan To You

Counselling with CBT Wellness is always individualised to meet your needs and goals. That said, there are several core approaches that inform the work we do.

Through Mindful Self Compassion, you can learn mindfulness skills to help reduce your stress levels while learning how to treat yourself with the same level of kindness and compassion that you have for a friend. Thereby increasing your emotional well being and resiliency.

As our practice name suggests, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is deeply important to us. CBT can help you become more aware of how your thoughts influence the way you feel and behave. The goal is to introduce healthier ways of thinking and break out of the unhelpful behaviour patterns to cure your depression.

Our therapists also frequently incorporate DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy) skills. Whereas CBT focuses on your thought patterns, DBT is more about giving you concrete strategies for regulating your emotions and mood. It can help you increase your tolerance to distress, how you handle uncertainty and respond to triggers as well as preventing extreme negative or impulsive reactions to stimuli. It’s an effective form of treatment for depression and episodes of severe depression.

You May Have Some Question or Concerns About Depression Treatment or Therapy…

I don’t feel like doing it…I don’t even want to leave my house.
Often, when we are experiencing depression, we don’t feel like doing anything. When we are feeling depressed, our automatic tendency is to withdraw and avoid. While this is common, it is very problematic and perpetuates the cycle of depression. The hardest step is often the first step-reaching out for support. That’s why we have tried to simplify the process as much as possible. There are a variety of ways you can contact us for a free 15 minute consultation or a full 50 min initial appointment, and you don’t have to leave your house. All of our sessions are offered over secure video or phone.
It’s too much work. I don’t have time for this.
We get it. Life can be hard and complicated. Right now taking time for yourself and prioritizing yourself can feel like too much. Taking 15-50 minutes out of your day can feel like a lot, but our clients often report that they get back so much more time. What would it be like if you were more productive? Had more energy? Could be more present in your day to day experiences? Our hope is that depression counselling improves your mood, increases your energy and enhances your enjoyment in day to day life.
Therapy is too overwhelming.
Sometimes the thought of therapy is worse than the actual therapy. The more we procrastinate and avoid it, the harder it becomes to do it. But we have to break that cycle. It takes courage and bravery to reach out and seek support. We commend you for getting this far and reading this. We offer sessions from the comfort of your own home/workplace via video or phone. We have also tried to simplify the booking process by creating a variety of different methods you can use to book an appointment: via phone, filling out the contact form or booking an appointment yourself using our online booking tool.
